Overview
Created the menu for our website redesign before our merger with our sister credit union. In early 2024 I got the opportunity to work with a UX Researcher from an agency we used for our web development. We worked on UX personas and did user journey mapping. I missed most of the actual design process for the website as I was out on paternity leave for a few months. When I got back the menu design and structure were still outstanding so I voluteered to take it on.
The team was having trouble organizing the items in the menu. Credit cards only had a few items, while some of the others had 10-12. We wanted a simpler menu that was easy to understand and users could find what they are looking for.
For this project, I did a competitor analysis of other financial institutions. I created a FigJam board with dozens of screenshots, adding stars and sticky notes for the team to view. I came up with two design solutions and presented them to the team. We landed on using verbs like bank, borrow, and manage to describe the actions.
We consolidated the utility menu into the menu dropdown, as well as the resources like how-to-guides and our blog.
